The New York Stock Exchange has suspended trading this morning. The exchange says it "temporarily halted" trading as of 11:32 a.m. ET, but did not elaborate on the reason.
About an hour earlier the exchange said there was a technical issue that had been resolved.
The exchange says all open orders at the time of the shutdown will be cancelled.
Trading continues on NASDAQ and other markets, which include stocks also traded on the NYSE.
Before the halt, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the broader S&P 500 were down.
The NYSE was not the only large institution to experience computer glitches today. United Airlines instituted a ground halt for a time this morning, which it blamed on "connectivity issues." The halt has since been lifted and flights have resumed.
The Wall Street Journal's website was also down.
